THE METAL PIT

Album Review: TROUBLE

Run To The Light (Expanded Edition)

Review by Jim Harrison

Rating: 9

Doom metal fans will be rejoicing with the up coming re-release of their third album Run To The Light (Expanded Edition) through Metal Blade Records on June 16, 2023.

Trouble was formed in 1979 in Aurora, Illinois and quickly became leader in the doom metal genre actually hailed as one of the “Big four” doom metal bands. You can definitely hear a Sabbath vibe and their addition of psychedelic rock elements really showcase their sound.

The album starts with The Misery Shows where it starts slow and ominous than rips into some killer vocals. The second track, Thinking of the Past is my favourite on the album and this track has some great guitar riffs and really showcases their doom sound and is reminiscent of their first two albums. On borrowed time is probably the heaviest song on the album and shows off their musicianship.  The title track was the only video released on this album and this song has a Priest vibe that adds a cool twist to it. Tuesdays Child is a sick track and the vocals are tight. The last song on the original recording is the Beatles Cover, Come Together which just send shivers through your body.  I always thought this  song should have been more raw and heavier they do an amazing job with it.  Dare I say, I like it better than the original.

Run To The Light  was originally released July 15, 1987 and 36 years later almost to the day, the new expanded edition will add three demo versions of Tracks, The Misery Shows, Thinking of the Past and Run to the Light.  The addition of the demos bring a raw sound to these songs and really gives you insight on how talented this band is. They sound fantastic and add another dimension to the original album.  I highly recommend this album.
