ALBUM REVIEW: SHAKRA

Invincible

Review by Jim Harrison

Rating: 8

Hard rock band Shakra released their thirteenth studio album on June 9, 2023 via AFM records.  Hailing from Bern, Switzerland, Shakra is a heavy mix of hard rock and metal and I hear so many influences from Krokus, Whitesnake and some tracks have an AC/DC vibe making this a cool mix of an old and modern sound keeping this experienced band consistent. The album artwork was done by Vocalist Mark Fox and looks amazing.

Some of the highlights of the album start with the first track “The Way It Is” beginning with an acoustic slide than punching in a great rock mix with a catchy chorus that definitely sticks with you.  The guitars on this track are awesome and Mark Fox’s vocals create an “earworm” that you keep humming after the song is finished.  “Devil Left Hell” has a cool cymbal start when the guitars cut in giving a more rock/doom sound, this is one of my favourite tracks on the album.  The drums and bass in this track  keep that low, more ominous sound, “On the Wild Side” definitely has an AC/DC vibe to it.  The  classic sound really suits this album and is a good rocker track.  “Tell Her That I’m sorry” is a slower affair but really shows off Mark Fox’s vocals.  “House of Rock” is the heaviest track on the album and again has that cool hard rock vibe and is another favourite of mine.  The last track “As long As I’m Alive” has a bluesy Great White sound to it ending the album off on a high.

This hardworking band keeps themselves relevant with their sound in a time when many bands are trying to create a latest fad.  Shakra relies on their stellar musicianship and strong vocals to create an exciting sound. I have watched live performances online and they sound fantastic putting on a great show.  I recommend this album for any hard rock/metal fans that are looking for a great rocker experience definitely worthy of an 8/10 rating.
