This was a good year overall for death metal and thrash. Some veterans of the thrash scene like Metallica, Overkill and Sadus all released new music, but I think the death metal genre really shined the brightest in 2023. Bands like Autopsy and Cannibal Corpse really brought out their ‘A’ game with the ferocity and overall substance. Even Obituary and Horrendous knocked it out of the park, but nothing on my list even comes close to topping the superior and stellar piece of progressive death metal that Tomb Mold brought us. Overall though, my top 15 albums is quite diverse, so here’s hoping 2024 will bring us much the same.
