Album Review – BEHEMOTH

Behemoth – XXX Years Ov Blasphemy (Live)

Review by: Jenny Mac

Review Score: 9

Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior, Satan?

Polish extreme metal legends Behemoth have thundered through a 66.6 mile-thick ice wall—30 years of accumulated nuclear winter left in the the band’s wake—to bestow upon the netherworld a collection of live performances of some of the most brutal and beautiful tracks from a long campaign of darkness and wrath.

XXX Years Ov Blasphemy was birthed from the blackened womb as the sixth album in this most recent decade of Behemoth releases, crowning a true metal triumph: 6 albums per decade over 3 decades.

A thirty-year commitment to the bit. True grit. Trve cvlt. True genius.

Blasphemy features tracks compiled from three different live shows, split into three chronological acts (each with six tracks, naturally). They do say the devil’s in the details. Each act spans ten years of the band’s work, showcasing the evolution of their sound and chops as musicians. Behemoth has lost nary a step, delivering their driving, punishing, relentless assault on religious and societal norms with clinical precision and raw intensity. They’ve got the signature raw energy of old school HM-2 Swedish death metal with a live sound that’s been spit-shined into flailing submission. Blackened death, all grown up, boned up, and ready to fvck your skull.

This 90-minute journey through a frigid northern hellscape stands as a testament to Behemoth’s continued conquest of metal, crossing multiple genres and spawning new generations of wraiths to carry on the tradition of rebellion and hatred. XXX Years Ov Blasphemy is a gift to Behemoth fans, both virgin and seasoned. If you’re not among them yet, consider this album your gateway drug.
