Kenneth Gallant – Top 15 Albums of 2023

This was a good year overall for death metal and thrash. Some veterans of the thrash scene like Metallica, Overkill and Sadus all released new music, but I think the death metal genre really shined the brightest in 2023. Bands like Autopsy and Cannibal Corpse really brought out their ‘A’ game with the ferocity and overall substance. Even Obituary and Horrendous knocked it out of the park, but nothing on my list even comes close to topping the superior and stellar piece of progressive death metal that Tomb Mold brought us. Overall though, my top 15 albums is quite diverse, so here’s hoping 2024 will bring us much the same.

  1. Tomb Mold – The Enduring Spirit
  2. Cannibal Corpse – Chaos Horrific
  3. Overkill – Scorched
  4. Sadus – The Shadow Inside
  5. Prong – State of Emergency
  6. Autopsy – Ashes, Organs, Blood and Crypts
  7. Exmortus – Necrophony
  8. Obituary – Dying of Everything
  9. Horrendous – Ontological Mysterium
  10. In Flames – Foregone
  11. Burning – Witches The Dark Tower
  12. Frozen Soul – Glacial Domination
